Finally! We’ve been waiting to share this with you forever. Here is our first official music video for our song “Good Boy,” one of our favorite tracks off our soon-to-be-released record. We are so outlandishly pleased by the way this video turned out, and we can’t thank you all enough for sharing it with your friends, giving us feedback, and most importantly, for being as supportive and awesome as you are. High fives all around.

The biggest high five goes to our director and best bud, Matt Porter. He came up with the idea for this video, and as you can probably tell, he is a mad genius…in so many ways. If you haven’t seen Matt’s crazy weekly video clips at Good Cop Great Cop, you’re missing out on the best thing on the internet.

Two more super-big high fives go to Andrew Ellis and Ryan Nethery, our esteemed cinematographers.

And of course, none of this would have been possible without Esteban Pedraza, Sasha Arutyunova, Tara Perry, Evan Polivy, Alan Gordon, Georgie Leddy, Jon Seale, Brady Bryson, Jennifer O’Neill, Mike Magaraci, and all of our dear friends at Mason Jar Music.

So what’s next for us?!

Well, we’ve been busy planning the most epic album release show of all time. It’s going to be in the Studio at Webster Hall on April 15th, and we’ll be opening with an acoustic set and closing the night with an electric set. Flearoy and EMEFE are joining us, and there will be all sorts of awesome raffle prizes that you can win.

This week we present to you “Old Man Duff,” a nearly forgotten folk song from 1931. We discovered it a few months ago in Stefan’s crazy 78 RPM record collection, and we wanted to revive it with a little bit of soul and some omnichord (which is an electronic autoharp from the 80’s). This is definitely more left-field than some of the other more popular covers we’ve been doing lately, but we certainly hope you enjoy it.

But I kinda felt like going up there and being like: “Everyone should go home, this is ridiculous. You should not be doing this. We should not be gathering in a big room and looking at each other and pretending that this is important.” That’s what I would say.

I may have teared up a little (no shame) when I saw Bon Iver at Lollapalooza in 2009, but now I’m just rolling my eyes.

this is what i turned in as my artistic statement. i was told i should probably do it again with a less abrasive approach. while i agree, there’s something about it i still kind of like.

Although I title myself as a music producer, recording engineer, and audio mixer, there is no real distinction between the three. I approach all new projects in the same way; how can I portray the infinite life and depth of music effectively through a pair of lifeless and mechanical moving coils? Essentially, I am attempting to fool listeners into believing that artificial, fabricated audio files are living, breathing performances. Thinking that way isn’t constructive, because then I have to trick myself too. And how effectively can one work when it all seems to lead up to a lie? But when I look at the raw digital audio data on the screen in front of me and tell myself that the musicians’ lives lie beneath the jagged waveforms, my work becomes fervent excavation. Whether I’m setting up microphones, determining the direction of a recording, or melding the final combination of tracks, I have one goal: to discover the intended effects of a musician’s live performance, and duplicate those same effects through a digital, re-playable, medium.
